We're figuring out the future of professional products.
As a collective, in private.
F
Our industry is undertaking the most significant shift of all time. Unfortunately, with the expansion of Professional products into the consumer channels like Amazon (and other digital marketplaces), the term 'Professional' alone has become an oxymoron. If we do nothing about this and the countless other critical industry issues, the future impact on us, the professional hairstylist, is catastrophic and irreversible.
T
It'll take more than one of us to facilitate the course-correction needed to secure professional standards within our industry. For example, how do we authenticate products and services? Who gets to use the term, Professional? Where and on what types of products should it be used? What terms will we even accept that define us? How can we reestablish a distinction between us Pros and all that noise in the consumer retail space?
In private means just us licensed, practicing hair stylists/cosmetologists and barbers. The public and troll-like behavior of traditional social platforms has quelled many future-critical topics. We can open up here in a safe environment. If you're not a licensed stylist, on the floor slinging hair, you're not getting in. Likewise, if you work for one of our industry partners (Loreal, Matrix, Paul Mitchel, Goldwell, etc.), you won't be able to enter as yet, either.

We need your support to facilitate the course correction to reestablish ourselves as Pro. For example, how do we authenticate products and classify them as professional? Who controls that narrative? Who can purchase them, and from where? These are critical issues that can be answered as a collective.
We've taken the following measures to ensure a safe and familiar environment. Licensed, practicing stylist only. No vendors or business partners (Loreal, Redken, Goldwell, etc.). No employees of. The platform is not public. You can be anonymous. No social media sharing. Encrypted blockchain privacy.

Our industry is undertaking the most significant shift of all time. We have several opportunities that can correct this and others. But they must be seized now to avoid the past equalling our future.

Our industry is going through a major transformation. However, the term 'Professional' has lost its meaning due to the availability of pro products on platforms like Amazon. If this issue and other important matters are not addressed, it will have disastrous consequences for hairstylists like us.

The mass exodus to leave the Pro hair care category in exchange for the amateur Amazon and Walmart category has, by default of their actions, officially stripped every pro product of its pro status. Pro products, as we knew them, are now amateur by nature.

When I penned this message, there were no more than three to five truly professional brands on the market in the US.
This is an opportunity.

Our hypothesis:
We're curious to see what shape and form conversations will take when those we alter our views and opinions for are absent. The relationship can easily be perceived as lopsided. So many aspects of the agreement alone are less than fair. The lack of pushback from the industry indicates a form of subordination. Suppose the business relationship was centered around an equitable exchange. A voice would organically rise to the surface and address these lopsided issues as they would arise. But that never happened. Is anyone going to rock the boat when the landscape of options can be counted on two hands, maybe?

Numbers don't lie, and we believe when there's weight in the form of data behind some of these theories of ours, stylists will have their thoughts validated.

The goal:
To validate the views and opinions of stylists with factual data in the hope they'll never second guess them. And this newfound inner-knowing will be used without fear and empower them in ways the industry's future is directed by a self and cooperative governance.

The outcome:
A portion of the industry has broken away and formed groups and companies that are right for them.

Ultimately, the standards of education and training, codes of conduct, ethical and moral obligations, and best practices at every industry level also elevate.
Creating a trusting and safe ecosystem has to protect all of us, always. The reality is no one will share in the presents of their business partners. That's why they've not permitted to be any part of the project until we all agree it may be time to let them in. Sadly, this may include you if you're in any way on the payroll for one of our partners. We believe there may be a time to have them join the room, But until then, it's just us.
Strictly stylish
no partners or brands
There's no mystery that our direct business partners (the Redkens, Paul Mitchels, Goldwells, Loreals, etc.) have expanded professional hair care and color into mass consumer channels such as Sephora, Amazon, and many other digital and brick-and-mortar establishments. This has diluted the exclusivity we once had. As a result, few truly professional products are available to us these days.
